National Taiwan University held the NTU Challenge for first time with the support from enterprises. The Diamond Biofund Inc. and Fubon financial holdings offered NT 8 million as competition award money, and provide seed fund for the start-up team to commercialize the creative ideas. Besides, six other companies including Acer, Advantech, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Samsung in Taiwan will provide related technical resources platform and mentors to assist.
The NTU alumna, RICHARD M.TSAI and Diamond Biofund Inc. promised to provide 1.5 billion together on 2014 and establish the NTU Diamond seed fund, which will be the capital source for young start-ups at their early stage.
The chairman of Diamond Biofund Inc., William Lu said that NTU’s dedication on nurturing start-ups can inspire young and aspiring entrepreneurs around the nation and will help with the economy.
William Lu also mentioned that Taiwan is lack of entrepreneurial environment in the past owing to the main industrial structure of electronic manufacturing services enterprises, and its recession is not an unfortunate for Taiwan. To encourage young people to start up now need help from industry and academia both, academia should follow the trend. He thought NTU make the start-up platform open to the public is exciting; As long as there is a good case, even if only in the concept stage, NTU Diamond seed fund is willing to support.
